Abstract: The algorithm of check gates operation for different schemes of water demand of offtakes as well as the hydraulic performances of the conveyance main canal under the condition of constant downstream depth operation was studied by means of numerical simulation. The operation schemes of the check gates includes: the gates opened in sequence, synchronously opened and reversely opened in sequence. The hydraulic characteristics to be studied are water level deviation upstream of the check gates, hydraulic transient duration and check gate operation duration. The results show that the shortest check gate operation duration can be attained if the gates are to be opened in sequence and the longest is happened to the scheme of check gates opened reversely in sequence. The shortest hydraulic transient duration happened to the scheme of synchronously opened and longest duration is corresponding to the scheme of opened in sequence reversely. As for the water level deviation upstream of the check gates, it exhibits nearly the same for three modes of operation.
