Abstract: Recently there are some remarks which are against the Nujiang River hydropower development due to the complex earthquake geological conditions and high risk of geological disasters. This paper studies the Nujiang fault, predicts the level of risk of geological disasters after the construction of the dam and introduces safety assurance measures in earthquake resistant engineering. Studies show that the Nujiang fault is not an Eurasia collision suture and the risk of geological disasters will be reduced after the construction of the dam. Carried out construction works in complex structure and the earthquake-prone areas is feasible and the construction after detailed earthquake safety evaluation and detailed seismic design is safe.
