Quake-resistance Analysis on Powerhouses of Three-Gorges Power Station and Research on Site Vibration

The vibration of the powerhouse structure of large-scale power stations is an interdisciplinary issue which has always attracted the attention of both engineering and academic fields. Due to the large capacity, wide variation of water head as well as the large size of the units, the stability index of the units of Three-Gorges power station is placed on the top of technical index evaluation.

Main contents of the research include:

(1) Precise analogue simulation on the complicated structure of each unit and analysis on self-vibration feature of the powerhouse structure

(2) Calculation and analysis on the vibration responses of the powerhouse structure of VGS units of Three-Gorges left bank power station under six designing water levels from the quantitative perspective in accordance with the testing results of the Three-Gorges turbine model

(3) Preliminary evaluation on quake-resistance qualities of powerhouses of the Three-Gorges power station under the effects of hydraulic vibration with reference to relevant evaluation standards of the vibration of building structures

(4) Testing, analysis and research on site vibration of Three-Gorges powerhouses in view of the water levels of 135m, 145m and 156m respectively, and that below the 156m water level

The research results of this project have not only provided scientific methodology and basis for forecasting the vibration of the powerhouse structure and the normal operation of Three-Gorges power station, but also given reference to the vibration forecast of the powerhouse structure of large-scale hydro-electric stations which are being built and to be built, thus producing sound social and economic benefits.
