IWHR’s Department of Irrigation and Drainage has complete the project “Demonstration and Application of Integrated Purification Technologies of Harvested Rainwater”.
Choosing Changdao County, a seaside town in east Shandong Province as the demonstration site, the project established concentrated rainwater harvesting and storage facilities in 50 households and two village-wide systems. The systems adopted automatic rainwater flow splitting and pre-filtration, as well as integrated biological slow filtering of cellar water.
The technologies are advanced and practical, and demand relatively low construction and operation costs and are convenient to use. The purification of harvested rainwater can be effectively achieved. The demonstration project can add over 42,000 cubic meter of water supply annually, sufficient for 3,000 and more villagers. The purified water meets the relevant national water quality standards, hence promising good application potential and sound environmental and economic benefits.
