On the occasion of attending the fourth Board of Council meeting of Asia Water Council (AWC), which is organized by The Ministry of Water Resources, China and IWHR, A delegation of AWC board council members, committee members of Asia Internarional Water Week (AIWW), and representatives of relevant countries and NGOs, altogether 60 strong, paid a visit to IWHR on March 29, 2017.

Dr. Kuang Shangfu, President of IWHR, accompanied by Vice Presidents Dr. Liu Zhiping and Dr. Peng Jing, warmly received the visiting delegation.

Dr. Kuang extended greatest welcome from IWHR to the AWC delegation. He introduced IWHR’s involvement in AWC, including our support to organizing the fourth BoC meeting of AWC and preparing the first AIWW. Dr. Kuang said that hopefully Asian countries could work joint-handedly for the solution of Asian water chanllenges within the framework of AWC.

The AWC delegation were showed the exhibition board and an introductory video of IWHR and were impressed by the research achievements and active international activities IWHR has accomplished. The AWC expressed similar wishes as IWHR in terms of deepening cooperation and sharing water management experiences.

The first AIWW Governing Board meeting convened in the morning of March 30th. Details about the 1st AIWW to to held in September, 2017 in Korea were discussed. Dr. Peng Jing presented a report on China's water issues and action plans.

The 4th BoC meeting of AWC convened in the afternoon, in which IWHR participated as a Board member.

The delegation paid a visit to the Tuanchenghu, a regulating reservoir in Beijing in the Middle Route of North-to-South Water Diversion Project on March 31st.

Asia Water Council was established in March 2016 with the mission of resolving Asian water chanllenges, sharing technical solutions and best practices, and advancing regional sustainable development. AWC currently has attracted 104 members from 26 countries.
