On Mar. 8, 2019, Prof. Joseph Hun-wei Lee of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), visited IWHR to enhance cooperation and exchange with the institute. Prof. Lee was received by IWHR President Dr. Kuang Shangfu, vice president Dr. Peng Jing, and relevant representatives from the Division of International Cooperation, Department of Hydraulics and Graduate School of IWHR.
Dr. Kuang warmly welcomed Prof. Lee, and reviewed his major contributions to IWHR’s efforts on international cooperation and exchange in the past. As former vice president of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Prof. Lee gave full support to the 35th IAHR World Congress co-organized by IWHR, and IWHR’s hosting of the Secretariat of IAHR. During the Academic week of IWHR in celebration of its 60th birthday, Prof. Lee gave an impressive keynote and chaired the Forum on Modern Water Governance and Technological Innovation. Dr. Kuang expressed sincere gratitude for Prof. Lee’s support and guidance and invited his further support for the international development of IWHR.
Prof. Lee applauded the success of the Academic Week of IWHR and spoke highly of its achievements made through consistent endeavor to promote international exchange and cooperation. He also offered candid suggestions on strengthening cooperation between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland in water resources development and promoting China’s international visibility and influence.
The two sides further exchanged views on concrete plans for exchange and cooperation.
