Delegation of Macau University of Science and Technology visits IWHR

On August 29 to 30, Dr. Liu Chak Wan, Chairman of the University Council of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Dr. Joseph H. W. Lee, Deputy Chairman and President of MUST as well as the President of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), and other delegates visited IWHR to discuss further cooperation.

The delegation was welcomed by Dr. KUANG Shangfu, IWHR President, Dr. PENG Jing, IWHR Vice President and IAHR Secretary-General, and representatives of other IWHR departments.

Dr. KUANG Shangfu delivered his warm greetings to the MUST delegation. He introduced the achievements made by IWHR, a national-level comprehensive water think tank attached to the Ministry of Water Resources of China, in research platform building, the development of water-related disciplines, high-quality development of water resources and hydropower, graduate student training, etc. He pointed out that the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay Area brought new opportunities for safe water supply, flood control and disaster mitigation, green ecology, smart monitoring, and other related work.

Dr. KUANG appreciated MUST for proactively forging ahead in diversified academic research and promotion of new knowledge, technologies and products to serve the development of Macau and China. He expressed IWHR’s expectation to strengthen exchanges for each other’s needs and deepen pragmatic cooperation with MUST.

Dr. Liu Chak Wan appreciated IWHR’s achievements in water resources and hydropower research and graduate training. He introduced MUST’s commitment to building up teaching and research and embracing talents, thus to serving the society through high-quality education and excellent research. He looked forward to more robust knowledge sharing, experience exchanges, technology integration and cross-sector collaboration. In that way, the two sides can work together in pioneer research on the Great Bay Area’s water issues and contribute to practical solutions for water challenges and a more sustainable society.

The delegation visited the Water Ecology and Environment Lab of IWHR to learn about the Institute’s water environment testing and production of related standard materials.
